Developer Motive explains how the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller features are utilized by the Dead Space remake to enhance player immersion.
Developer Motive revealed how the upcoming Dead Space remake will make the most of the DualSense controller capabilities of the PS5 a few days before its release. The developer suggests that the PlayStation 5 version of the Dead Space remake will have some special advantages over the Xbox Series X/S and PC versions of the game.
Dead Space, which debuted in 2008, quickly established itself as a standard for intergalactic horror games. Isaac Clarke, an engineer examining a distress signal coming from a spaceship, is the main character of the story. The crew is nowhere to be found when Clarke gets on board, but he's not alone—terrifying alien monsters are hiding in the shadows. The Dead Space remake maintains the same plot as the original game but adds several updates, such as a graphical makeover and useful quality-of-life adjustments that make Dead Space more accessible to players.
The creator of the Dead Space remake, Motive Studio, provided examples of how the game fully utilizes the DualSense controller features of the PS5 in a recent blog post that was posted on the official PlayStation website. As players navigate the USG Ishimura and confront the terrifying alien monsters from the Dead Space remake, the game primarily benefits from the haptic feedback and built-in speakers of the controller.
Players can apply varying degrees of force when pressing the triggers on the DualSense controller because it has haptic feedback. This feature in the Dead Space remake enables users to fire a shot from the plasma cutter and feel each bullet leave the pulse rifle. Aside from making players feel their steps with Isaac's magnetic boots in zero-gravity environments, the haptic feedback also gives players accurate vibrations when Isaac uses his Kinesis and Stasis modules. The DualSense gives PlayStation 5 users additional gameplay feedback in addition to vibrations by playing audio cues through the controller's built-in speakers.
Players' immersion in the space horror game will be further enhanced by these exclusive PlayStation 5 features. The Dead Space remake is terrifying, almost too frightening to play at night with headphones, as Motive has previously warned. Players who are bold enough to play the game can see Isaac Clarke's new appearance after the remake and try to unlock all the new trophies and achievements. Additionally, it appears that the Dead Space remake has an alternative ending that differs from the official one from the first game. This extra bonus could be fun for players who want to experience everything the Dead Space remake has to offer.
Dead Space launches on January 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
