Sumo Group has sold its editorial business, secret mode, for an unknown sum to Emona Capital and the current leadership of secret mode, Ed Blince and James Schall.
While Emona Capital, a financial investor with “deep experience in the game industry”, already has a portfolio that includes Relic Entertainment and Amber Studio, the secret mode marks its first investment in the publication of games.
According to reports, the secret mode will continue to operate as an independent editor, focused on supporting PC games and independent consoles. The current leadership of the secret mode, Blincoe and Schall, “has the complete support of Emona and will remain to the helm, leading the company when it enters its next phase.”
“The secret mode is deeply passionate about creativity and innovation within the independent space, so we are delighted to associate with emona capital and focus completely on the independent editorial scene,” said Blincoe.
“I also want to express our gratitude at most not only for believing in the original vision of the secret mode and supervising our start years, but for giving us this opportunity to become a totally independent entity.”
Schall added: “By becoming independent, we can now make all our efforts to discover the independent gems that players never knew that they needed in their lives. We are committed to bringing our players the best independent titles; not only only only to help them discover the existing independent teachers who have an indie service that have a restless notice in the radar in the years. In this front in the coming months.”
Sumo Group launched its secret mode of the division publication in 2021 to handle internally developed games, more projects from other independent studies. However, last month, Sumo Group announced that he would re -decorate his business to serve “exclusively to development services”, which would result in a restructuring and possible dismissals.
