Aaron Boupendza, former player of FC Cincinnati, dies at age 28 after the construction fall in China

Aaron Boupendza, a former MLS player, died at the age of 28 after falling from the eleventh story of a building in China. Gabon’s national team announced the news of Boupendza’s approval on Wednesday.

At the time of his death, Boupendza was playing for the Chinese Club of the Super League Zheijang FC. In an Instagram post in honor of Boupendza, Zhejiang said he died in his residence. An investigation is ongoing, and the club said it is cooperating with the authorities.

Boupendza passed parts of two seasons with FC Cincinnati in the MLS. In 2023, Boupendza spent 10 games with the club, scoring six goals. Next season, he achieved two goals in 14 appearances. His contract was ended in August 2024.

FC Cincinnati issued a statement about Boupendza’s death on social networks.

“We are sad to hear the tragic death of the former eave of FC Cincinnati, Aaron Boupendza, today at his home in China,” the team wrote in his statement. “Our hearts are with his family, friends and loved ones. He was a beloved member of the FC Cincinnati family, and we offer our condolences to all who knew him.”

Boupendza also represented his country of origin as Gabon in 35 international games, scoring eight goals in those appearances. One of them arrived in the 2016 African Nations Championship.
