After another defeat and just seven months into his reign at Borussia Dortmund, is coach Nuri Sahin already on the brink of losing his job?
Dortmund is tenth in the Bundesliga, 20 points behind leader Bayern Munich and seven behind Stuttgart, which is fourth.
They would have finished third in the Champions League standings on Tuesday, but conceded two goals in two minutes against Bologna to lose their fourth consecutive match in 2025.
Dortmund have so far lost four consecutive games in all competitions, something that has only happened to the club once (six in a row in March and April 2000) in the last 30 years.
The defeat means Dortmund are in 13th place and must get a result against Shakhtar Donetsk in their final match of the league stage to have a chance of automatically qualifying for the round of 16.
For the first time in the competition, the German team has lost several games after scoring the first goal.
Former coach Edin Terzic, who guided the team to the Champions League final last season, left the club in June when he felt that “the new era of the club should begin with a new man on the wing.”
Turkish manager Sahin, who began his career at Dortmund and played more than 250 games for the club, was chosen as that man, but the club’s season has seen inconsistent performances and defeats.
Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has already been linked, external with taking over if Sahin is fired.
