Far Cry 3 on PS5 & Xbox Series Gets Free 60 FPS Update Later This Week
Ubisoft is rolling out a free performance update for Far Cry 3: Classic Edition that will let players experience the iconic Rook Islands adventure at 60 frames per second on current-generation consoles. The update is set to arrive on January 21, 2026, and promises smoother gameplay and improved responsiveness — a long-requested quality-of-life enhancement for this beloved title.
Smoother Performance for a Classic
Far Cry 3, originally released in 2012, became a fan favorite thanks to its open-world gameplay and memorable antagonist Vaas. Although Classic Edition versions released for modern consoles were visually enhanced, they remained capped at 30 FPS — even on powerful hardware like PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Ubisoft’s new patch removes that limitation, allowing the Classic Edition to run at 60 FPS — delivering smoother motion, more responsive controls, and a generally more modern feel that better suits today’s standards. The update is part of Ubisoft’s broader effort to improve older titles, following similar performance boosts previously given to games like Far Cry 4.
