Horizon’s Unannounced MMO Looks Like It Has Been Quietly Canceled

An MMO based on Sony’s Horizon IP has reportedly been cancelled.

We first learned of a Horizon MMO in 2022, when a report indicated that the project was in the works at Guild Wars’ NCSoft. At the time, a source familiar with Sony and NCsoft said the two companies had “tentatively agreed to pursue a commercial partnership in which [NCsoft] will create new games using Sony’s promising gaming IP.”

A year later, in 2023, Sony and NCsoft publicly announced a strategic partnership, designed to “expand beyond consoles and extend PlayStation’s reach to a broader audience.” While neither company referenced Horizon as part of the announcement, the series was widely believed to be a key part of the collaboration.

Since then, we’ve heard little else apart from job postings shared in 2023 that seemed to confirm that Horizon MMO was in development under the codename Project Skyline (with the initial codename being Project H). And now, it looks like the MMO has been canceled before it was even officially announced.

A report from Korean publication MTN (via ResetEra) claims that work on Project H and several other projects has ceased following a “feasibility review” at NCSoft. “Between them, ‘H’ and ‘J’ have already disappeared from the company’s organizational chart,” reads a translation of the report.

The MMO Horizon was reportedly scheduled for release on PC and mobile devices. Eurogamer has contacted NCSoft and Sony regarding today’s report.

Today’s news follows a report earlier this month that Sony had canceled two more games from its proposed live service, one from Days Gone developer Bend and another from Bluepoint. Bluepoint was reportedly developing a live service game within the God of War series.

Bend Studio has since said that it “still plans to create cool things” following the cancellation of its game.
