Marcelo: The Real Madrid legend retires from 36 -year -old football

The defender of Brazil Marcelo has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36.

The left side, one of the most decorated players in history, played 58 times for Brazil.

After reaching the ranks of the Brazilian club Fluminense, Marcelo joined Real Madrid in 2007 at the age of 18.

He won 25 important pieces in 15 years at Bernabéu, including five titles of the Champions League and six titles of the League.

“At 18, Real Madrid knocked on my door and I arrived here. Now, I can proudly say that I am a real Madrid,” Marcelo said in a video on his social networks.

“Sixteen seasons, 25 titles, five leagues of champions, one of the captains and so many magical nights in the Bernabéu. What a trip!

“My trip as a player ends here, but I still have a lot to give football. Thank you for everything.”

Marcelo was named Captain of the Club in 2021, becoming the first non -Spanish that received the bracelet in the club in 117 years.

The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, said: “Marcelo is one of the best sides in the history of Real Madrid and world football, and we have had the privilege of enjoying it for a long time.

“It is one of our greatest legends and Real Madrid is and will always be your home.”

He left Madrid at the end of the 2021-22 season to join the Olympiacos of the Greek team, but ended his agreement only five months after joining.

Marcelo joined Boyhood Club Fluminense in 2023 and spent two seasons at the club, making 68 appearances.

The full-back left by mutual consent last November, after a public fall with Mano Menezes.
