Sony confirms cancellation of Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games live service projects

Sony has confirmed the cancellation of two unannounced live service titles from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games.

As reported by Bloomberg, a spokesperson said the projects were closed “following a recent review.” He reiterated that PlayStation is dedicated to creating online and single-player games.

“Bend and Bluepoint are very successful teams that are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what upcoming projects are,” the spokesperson said.

None of the studios will close, but it is unclear how this decision will affect employees and whether layoffs will occur.

In a memo seen by Bloomberg, Sony said it is “working closely with Bend and Bluepoint” and “planning[s] do everything possible to ensure that the business impact is minimal.

Bend Studio has been Sony’s in-house developer since 2000 and is known for its work on the Days Gone franchise.

Sony acquired Bluepoint Games in 2021 as a first-party studio focused on developing remasters and remakes including Uncharted, God of War, and Demon Souls.

Last September, Sony pulled its live-action hero shooter Concord from sale two weeks after its August release. Then their servers went down on September 6.

A month later, Sony shut down Concord developer Firewalk Studios, along with Neon Koi, after evaluating its “game portfolio and the state of its business.” [its] projects.”
