The Saints of New Orleans are expected to hire Doug Nussmeier as their new offensive coordinator, confirmed a source from the League to ESPN.
Nussmeier has worked together with the new chief coach of the Saints, Kellen Moore, at several stops, more recently in Philadelphia, where he served as a field marshal coach for Jalen Hurts and the super Bowl Eagles champion.
Nussmeier was the field marshal coach during Moore periods as an offensive coordinator for Dallas Cowboys (2019-22) and Los Angeles Chargers (2023) as well.
Nussmeier, 54, is an old QB with links with the area. He was selected by the Saints in the fourth Round of the 1994 draft out of Idaho and spent four seasons in New Orleans, followed by brief periods with the Broncos of Denver, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.
His son, Garrett Nussmeier, is the Marshal of the Field Field in LSU.
Moore, who was hired as the new chief coach of the Saints after the victory of the Eagles in the Super Bowl Lix, has said that he will call the offensive plays for New Orleans next season.
The Eagles on Wednesday promoted the coordinator of the game of passes/associated coach Kevin Patullo to the position of the offensive coordinator to replace Moore.
Doug Nussmeier has previously worked as an offensive coordinator and coach of field marshal in university ranks with the state of Fresno, Washington, Florida, Michigan and Alabama. He was the offensive coordinator in 2012 when Crimson Tide won the National Championship.
“I think he is an outstanding coach who played the position at a very high level in the NFL and in the big university football,” said the Eagles coach, Nick Sirianni, about Nussmeier in December.
“I think he has done a good job by training Jalen and training the other boys. I think he is very good with our staff. Obviously, he and Kellen have a previous relationship.”
