The Cincinnati Bengals lost a wild game 35-34 to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, and it’s a game that ended in controversy after the officiating crew appeared to miss two flagrant penalties on a key two-point attempt in the final minute.
With 38 seconds left in the game, Joe Burrow connected with Ja’Marr Chase for a 5-yard touchdown that cut Baltimore’s lead to 35-34. The Bengals could have gone for the tie by getting an extra point, but instead, head coach Zac Taylor decided he wanted to try to put his team ahead by going for two.
On the two-point play, Burrow attempted to hit Tanner Hudson, but the pass fell incomplete. No flags were thrown on the play, but there probably should have been two. Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki was grabbed by a Ravens defender, which could have easily been called a defensive hold. On the same play, Burrow was also shot in the head by a Ravens defender.
“Thursday Night Football” rules analyst is former NFL Referee Terry McAulay said the Ravens should have been penalized for both penalties.
“It was clearly a defensive hold before the pass was in flight, that should have been called,” McAulay said. “And that looks like forceful contact to the quarterback’s head. That’s an assault on the passer, it should have been called.”
If both penalties had been called, the Bengals would have only been able to accept one of them and would have been able to retry their two-point attempt from the 1-yard line. Obviously there is no guarantee that they would have made it, but due to the missed penalties, they never They had the opportunity.
Early down the road, officers also missed another shot to Burrow’s head.
It was an ugly ending for Clete Blakeman’s officiating team, who actually did a good job for most of the game.
The missed double was one of the few low points for Burrow. The Bengals quarterback had a big night, throwing for 428 yards and four touchdowns. chase too He had a historic game. with 11 receptions for 264 yards and three touchdowns.
Burrow and Chase nearly led a miraculous comeback, but the Bengals came up short and will now return to Cincinnati with a 4-6 record.
The Baltimore Ravens struggled to find a commanding lead against their rival Cincinnati Bengals to open Thursday night’s Week 10 matchup. They also lost one of their best players just before halftime, with star safety Kyle Hamilton suffering a non-contact ankle injury while trying to defend a pass from Joe Burrow.
Fans initially worried on social media, watching replay of Hamilton slipping on the turf at M&T Bank Stadium, that the All-Pro may have suffered a serious injury, such as a torn Achilles tendon. However, the Ravens quickly ruled Hamilton questionable to return for Thursday’s game, attributing the issue to his ankle. Then he was ruled out midway through the third quarter.
Head coach John Harbaugh downplayed the severity of the injury after the game (a wild 35-34 win for Baltimore). tell journalists Hamilton suffered a sprained ankle that was “not very serious.” He did not offer a return time frame.
Hamilton had four tackles before leaving the field under his own power. He participated in Thursday’s contest, widely considered one of the NFL best defensive backs, with five pass deflections, five quarterback hits and three tackles for loss in the 2024 season. The Ravens have also used him in multiple positions in recent years, including linebacker and nickel cornerback.
Baltimore’s backup safeties include former Chicago Bears starter Eddie Jackson and fourth-year reserve Ar’Darius Washington, who has four pass deflections and one interception this year.
BALTIMORE — Lamar Jackson’s dominance of the Cincinnati Bengals continued Thursday night, as did his flair for the dramatic.
Jackson’s 5-yard touchdown pass to receiver Rashod Bateman with 1:49 left in the game led the Baltimore Ravens to a 35-34 victory and improved his career record to 10-1 against the Bengals.
The outcome came down to the final minute when the Ravens needed their defense to force an incomplete pass from Joe Burrow on a 2-point conversion with 38 seconds left to preserve Jackson’s 12th career-winning drive. There will be debate as to whether a penalty should have been called on the 2-point attempt.
Jackson has had two game-winning drives this season, and both were against the Bengals. He helped Baltimore win 41-38 in overtime at Cincinnati last month.
The reigning NFL MVP needed to shake off his worst start to the season. After being held to 71 yards in the first half, Jackson completed 15 of 19 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
The Ravens scored 28 points in the second half, the most of any team in a second half this season.
The Ravens (7-3), who have swept Cincinnati in consecutive seasons, are now virtually tied for first place in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2).
QB Breakdown: Jackson was dominant in the fourth quarter, completing 11 of 13 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns. It was the second-most passing yards in a fourth quarter this season. Jordan Love had 202 in Week 4 against the Vikings. With two on Thursday, Jackson has nine touchdown passes from outside the pocket, four more than any other quarterback this season. Burrow is second with five.
Surprising statistic: Wide receiver Tylan Wallace chose an opportune moment to record the first touchdown catch of his career. With Baltimore trailing 21-14 in the fourth quarter, Wallace took a short pass from Jackson and turned it into an 84-yard touchdown while somehow staying in bounds as he ran down the left sideline. Wallace gained 78 yards after the catch over expected, which is YACOE’s second-most on a catch since 2018, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.
Worrying trend: The Ravens’ league-worst pass defense looked like this in the second half, when Baltimore was without All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton (ankle). The Ravens allowed touchdown passes of 67 and 70 yards to wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. For the season, Baltimore has allowed 28 completions of 25 or more yards, which is the most in the league.
Most amazing performance:Justin Tucker. The seven-time Pro Bowl kicker hit an extra point wide left that would have tied the game at 21 in the fourth quarter. Tucker had scored 75 extra points in a row before that miss. He had some struggles early in the season, but entered Thursday having made 10 of his previous 11 field goals.
Next match: at Steelers (1 p.m. ET, Nov. 17)
Surprising Statistic: Chase had his sixth career game of at least 150 receiving yards and a touchdown. That ties Lance Alworth for the third most players under the age of 25 in league history, according to NFL Research. Only Randy Moss and Justin Jefferson had more, each with seven. Chase finished with 11 receptions for 264 yards and three touchdowns.
Fundamental game: Cincinnati was in control of the game until Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey stripped Bengals running back Chase Brown for a fumble that Baltimore recovered with 7:05 left in the third. That sparked a 21-point run that allowed the Ravens to not only get back into the game but also take the lead. This compounded the Bengals’ running game woes on a night when they struggled to do much.
Quarterback Breakdown. Burrow performed well. Despite facing pressure all night and without wide receiver Tee Higgins, Burrow extended plays and consistently found Ja’Marr Chase. His 70-yard touchdown pass to Chase in the fourth quarter immediately halted Baltimore’s momentum after the Ravens scored 21 straight points to take the lead. It was Burrow’s ninth career game with at least 350 passing yards and three passing touchdowns (he finished with 428 and four), extending his own lead to the most in Bengals history. It may not have been a coincidence that Burrow did so after Hamilton suffered an ankle injury. Burrow was 15 of 21 for 243 yards and three touchdowns after Hamilton left the game with 1:17 left in the second quarter.
The Cincinnati Bengals fell to the Baltimore Ravens in a dramatic shootout Thursday night to begin Week 10. It wasn’t for a lack of effort on the part of Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, who took their already fearsome pairing to new heights. against a Ravens secondary that Kyle Hamilton lost star safety to injury. Burrow finished with 428 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Chase made NFL history with 264 receiving yards and three touchdowns, two of which came on plays of more than 60 yards.
Chase’s 264 yards on 11 receptions give him a combined total of 457 receiving yards against the Ravens this season; He previously had 10 catches for 193 yards in Cincinnati’s Week 5 overtime loss to Baltimore. That total is the most by any player against a team in NFL history, eclipsing the previous record of 428 yards, set by Art Powell of the Oakland Raiders against the Houston Oilers in 1963.
The Pro Bowl wide receiver also nearly set a new career-high in receiving yards; He had 266 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, which ranks 16th all-time among single-game marks. Chase is now the only player in NFL history to record two games with at least 260 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Chase entered Thursday’s game second in receiving yards in the 2024 season (717), but now leads the NFL with 981 in 10 games, on pace to break his career-high of 1,455, which he set as Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2021. He also leads the league with 10 receiving touchdowns.
Additionally, the star receiver now owns more 60-yard touchdowns than any NFL player under the age of 25 in league history, recording his 11th and 12th such scores against Baltimore.
TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have donated $10,000 to the family involved in a car accident on the way to the Bucs’ “Monday Night Football” game on Nov. 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. The crash killed Connor Barba, 18, of Norman, Oklahoma, and seriously injured his mother, Megan Barnett.
Barnett surprised his son with tickets before his birthday so he could see his favorite player, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, who said through a Bucs spokesperson that he and his wife Emily plan to come to the family
“My thoughts and prayers are with Megan and her family as they deal with this heartbreaking loss,” Mayfield said in a statement. “I am humbled and humbled to know that Connor was a big fan. I would have loved to meet him. As a new father, this really hits home for me. I realize that there are no words that can bring true comfort in any given moment. like this one, but I hope that Megan makes a full recovery and that she draws strength from the great support she is receiving from all over the country.”
Barba’s uncle, Collin Barnett, told “Good Morning America”: “He was a football fan in general and a big Baker fan. He wanted to see Baker play. It was just going to be a great game.”
The crash occurred in Montgomery County, Kansas, about 170 miles southwest of Kansas City, shortly before 4 p.m. on Nov. 2, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. For unknown reasons, a 2014 Chevy Camaro veered into the other lane of a two-lane highway and struck Barba, who was driving, and Barnett head-on. Police said the other driver, Joseph Savage, of Coffeyville, Kansas, also died.
Collin Barnett also told “Good Morning America” that Barba’s quick actions likely saved his mother’s life.
“They told us that the [other car] I was in Connor’s lane, and Connor swerved, [and] who hit the brakes tremendously hard and ran Megan off the road,” Collin Barnett said. “He took the full impact and was kind of heroic about it.”
Barnett is currently in the ICU of a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to a GoFundMe set up by his employer.
Prithvi Shaw, the fallen opener in India and Mumbai, has found support from Greg Chappell as he deals with a career that has been hit by form, fitness and disciplinary issues. Chappell has suggested Shaw embark on a “journey of self-reflection” and prioritize processes over results.
The latest setback for Shaw, 24, came last month when he was left out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad due to “poor physical fitness and general conduct”. Since then, the team’s coach has prescribed an exercise regimen as he works to return to established standards. So far this season, in which he had a brief spell with Northamptonshire, Shaw has scored just a half-century in 11 innings.
“Remember, setbacks are part of the story of every great athlete,” Chappell, former Australia captain and India coach, wrote to Shaw in a letter seen and published by the Indian Times. “Even legends like Don Bradman faced the disappointment of being eliminated and had to fight back. What made them great was not avoiding challenges, but how they responded to them.”
“The past does not define you, Prithvi. What matters is what you do from here. You are still in your prime, with so many years ahead of you to leave your mark”
Chappell and Shaw crossed paths at the 2018 U-19 World Cup, when Chappell was cricket Australia’s talent manager and Shaw was India’s captain when they won the title beating Australia in the final.
“I understand that you are facing a challenging time right now, being away from the Mumbai team. It is natural to feel frustrated and perhaps a little insecure, but I want you to know that these moments are often turning points for athletes, helping shape their careers and their character,” Chappell wrote. “I remember watching you play for the Indian under-19 team, where you showed extraordinary talent and a spark that made it clear that you were among the most exciting young cricketers of your time. Those of us who recognize your potential are still watching Pay attention to your path, knowing that the best is yet to come.”
One of Chappell’s suggestions for Shaw is to move from a results-oriented to a process-oriented mindset: “That shift, from results-focused to process-focused, transformed my approach both in practice and in games. I encourage you to embark on a similar journey of self-reflection. It’s easy to blame circumstances, but ultimately your response to these challenges will define your path.”
Late last month, Shaw was among the many players released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega auction later this month. He endured a poor IPL 2024, where he scored just 198 runs in eight games, with just a half-century. His early season form wasn’t great either, as he struggled following his return from a long injury layoff.
“The past does not define you, Prithvi,” Chappell wrote. “What matters is what you do from now on. You are still in your prime, with so many years ahead of you to make your mark. Take this time to visualize the cricketer and the person you want to become. Surround yourself with people who inspire you to do it better.
“Take care of your body, get the right amount of rest and develop the strength and focus you need. The door back to the Indian team is open if you are willing to walk through it, but it requires a commitment to growth and change.
“Know that I, and many others, believe in you and are here to support your journey back to the top. If I can ever help you or if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Everything is at your fingertips for you to reach your goal. maximum potential.”

Josh Hazlewood returned for Australia in the second ODI at Adelaide Oval as he aims to wrap up the series before the Test players take a break from the final game in Perth.
Sean Abbott is the player who left the team that played in Melbourne and got over the line by two wickets after the Pakistan quicks, especially Haris Rauf, shook up the middle order.
Pakistan named an unchanged team, resisting the temptation to bring in a frontline player, and will play first after Mohammad Rizwan won the toss. Pat Cummins said he too would have bowled on a surface with good grass cover, but he expected it to work well throughout. Naseem Shah is fit after leaving the field late in the game at the MCG.
Hazlewood, Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will skip the Perth match on Sunday to focus on preparations for the India Test series, meaning that if Pakistan can force the series to a decisive finish, they will face a significantly changed equipment.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Chicago Bears nose tackle Andrew Billings was placed on injured reserve Thursday after undergoing surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season.
The defensive tackle left the second half of Chicago’s 29-9 loss to Arizona in Week 9 with the injury and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Billings has played in all 25 games since joining the Bears as a free agent in 2023 and signing a contract extension midway through last season. In eight games this season, Billings recorded 13 tackles and one sack.
“It’s huge,” Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington said of the void Billings creates. “Andrew [is] Just a big, physical guy. He has elevated his game this year in terms of being able to affect the quarterback. He can play from the position to the bench, so there is no way to replace Andrew, only his leadership, the example he sets every day in the meeting rooms and on the practice field. We will step forward behind him, but it is something that does not replace a person like that. A professional like that, but I have tremendous confidence in the players who will fill that position and give us the opportunity to go out and do the things we need to do.”
The Bears will look for a combination of players to fill Billings’ spot, including former third-round defensive tackle Zacch Pickens, who missed time this season after breaking his groin, Chris Williams and Byron Cowart.
Down four at the end of the second quarter, the Bucks now have the lead. They have a bit of protection as they currently lead the Jazz 88-77.
The Bucks entered the game with six straight losses and are on pace for seven. Can they turn things around or will the Jazz hand them another defeat? Only time will tell.
Jazz fans are hoping the team plays a big game on Thursday as the odds are decidedly against them. Their road trip will continue as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks at 8:00 pm ET at Fiserv Forum. The Jazz will strut their stuff after a win, while the Bucks will bounce back from a loss.
The Jazz have just scored the most points they have all season. They beat the Bulls by a score of 135-126 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Utah as it ended their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
The Jazz can attribute much of their success to Keyonte George, who nearly had a double-double with 33 points and nine assists, and John Collins, who had a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds. What’s more, George also racked up six 3-pointers, the most he’s had since March.
Meanwhile, the Bucks’ recent slump got a little tougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 116-114. The close matchup was heartbreaking for Milwaukee, which nearly overcame a 19-point deficit.
The defeat does not tell the whole story, since several players played good games. One of the most active was Damian Lillard, who scored 36 points plus seven assists.
Utah kept their fans waiting, but they finally got their first win of the season to leave their record at 1-6. As for Milwaukee, their loss dropped their record to an identical 1-6.
While only the Jazz took care of their fans the last time they played, both teams pleased bettors by covering the spread. Looking ahead, the Bucks are probably holding out for this one, considering their 9.5 advantage in the spread. Neither team has fared well against the spread this season; They are 2-5, while Utah is 1-6.
The Jazz bested the Bucks in their previous meeting in February by a score of 123-108. The rematch could be a little more difficult for the Jazz since this time the team will not have the home field advantage. We’ll see if the change of venue makes a difference.
