Dak Prescott injury update: Cowboys quarterback seeking alternative diagnosis and timeline in hopes of avoiding IR

0

The Dallas Cowboys could be without starting quarterback Dak Prescott for a while. Team owner Jerry Jones said Prescott will likely land on injured reserve due to the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 9.

If you enter IR, the earlier he could return in Week 14 for the Dec. 9 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Immediately following the injury, Jones did not provide a timetable for Prescott, other than confirming that the quarterback would not play in their Week 10 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The three-time Pro Bowl selection underwent an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury, and according to CBS Sports NFL expert Jonathan JonesThe results indicated a more serious injury than initially feared.

On Wednesday, NFL media reported Prescott’s initial diagnosis was a partial avulsion of the hamstring tendon, meaning it is partially torn from the bone. In many cases, surgery is required to fix the problem, but there are some situations where waiting to let the scar heal, mend, and then strengthen through physical therapy and other methods could work. On Wednesday morning, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said a decision had not yet been made on whether or not to place the quarterback on injured reserve.

The Cowboys were outplayed in their Week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons, a 27-21 loss. And that was before losing Prescott for most of the fourth quarter to a hamstring injury.

After the game, Prescott provided insight into how his body felt before leaving the competition.

“I felt something pulling,” Prescott said, via El Atlético. “I felt something I had never felt before,” Prescott added, via ESPN. “It will be very difficult for me not to be there.”

Prescott was also seen waving his right hand on the bench, clearly compromised in both his upper and lower body, which is why Dallas concluded their day was over with 11:40 left in the game. He finished with 133 passing yards and a touchdown (a 3-yard scoring pass to running back Rico Dowdle) on 18 of 24 passing on Sunday.

Prescott was replaced by backup quarterback Cooper Rush, an eight-year player. NFL veteran. Rush has won five of his six starts in place of an injured Prescott, including wins in four of his five starts in 2022 when Prescott was out with a thumb injury. Rush threw a 4-yard touchdown to wide receiver Jalen Tolbert in addition to passing for 115 yards while completing 13 of his 25 passes off the bench.

No matter who Dallas’ quarterback was Sunday in Atlanta, beating the Falcons wasn’t in the cards. The Cowboys were 3 of 13 on third down and 1 of 5 on fourth down. Missed tackles and a lack of communication on defense also hamstrung the Cowboys’ efforts to play complementary football on Sunday afternoon.

Rush should be expected to take over under center while Prescott remains out, although the team could also opt to turn to third-string quarterback Trey Lance to see if he’s capable of being Prescott’s future backup.

‘Disappointing’ Borderlands movie benefited game sales, says Take-Two

0

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick called this summer’s Borderlands movie “disappointing” but said it had a positive impact on the game‘s sales.

Based on the video game series developed by his studio Gearbox, the film Borderland was written and directed by Eli Roth, and stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack Black.

The film grossed just $33 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, against a reported production budget of approximately $115 million, plus marketing and distribution costs of $30 million.

It was widely panned by critics and had a very short theatrical run, going from the big screen to digital stores in just three weeks.

During Take-Two’s quarterly earnings call on Wednesday, the company was asked to break down the film’s contribution, whether it benefited game sales, and whether it planned to license more of its intellectual property for adaptations.

“With respect to Borderlands, we don’t really need to break down the film’s contribution, because while it was economically positive, it wasn’t material to our results,” CEO Strauss Zelnick responded.

“Even though the movie was disappointing, it actually benefited our catalog sales, so it’s a sign that making a movie or TV show based on our very high-quality intellectual property can boost catalog sales, and that can be something good.

“All that being said,” he continued, “we are very selective, and one of the reasons we’ve been so selective about licensing is that we would really prefer that anything that comes out with our brands be really successful. and we cannot guarantee it, especially when it is out of our hands. We have licensed other titles, we will continue to do so selectively, but [note the] word always so subtle, selectively.”

In February 2022, it was announced that Take-Two had partnered with Netflix to produce a live-action film adaptation of BioShock, to be directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, The Hunger Games).

During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, producer Roy Lee said the scope of the BioShock movie had been “reconfigured” after Netflix cut its budget.

“The new regime has reduced budgets,” he said (via Variety). “So we’re making a much smaller version. … It will be a more personal point of view, rather than a bigger, grander project.”

Borderlands 4 was recently announced for release in 2025.
