Saints say putting WR Chris Olave on IR ‘on the table’

Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi said Friday that placing Olave on injured reserve “hasn’t been officially determined yet, but it’s obviously on the table.”

Olave suffered a concussion Sunday against the Carolina Panthers and left the stadium on a backboard to be transported to a hospital in Charlotte. Olave was released in time to fly home with the team that day.

Olave’s second concussion occurred three weeks after his first of the season, which occurred in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Olave missed the next game against the Denver Broncos but returned to play against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8.

Olave, who switched to a safer helmet model but opted not to wear a Guardian cap in games, also took a hit to the head area against the Chargers and was evaluated for a concussion before returning.

He has now had four confirmed concussions in his NFL career, including concussions in 2022 and 2023. Rizzi said Wednesday that Olave and his family planned to take the healing process slowly and explore all of their options.

“We’re trying to determine what’s best now for the long term,” Rizzi said. “There’s a process he’s going through. He met with our people and then there are people outside the building…Chris will be out right now for the short term, and then we’ll make a long-term decision.” term, but he is meeting with several people and with everyone here, our medical staff has been in contact with all of them.

Olave was one of four Saints players ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, along with starting offensive lineman Lucas Patrick, starting cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. Rizzi also said the running back Jamaal Williams, who sprained his groin. injury this week, he will not play despite being listed as questionable.

Center Erik McCoy, who has been out since Week 4 following groin surgery, returned to practice but is doubtful to play. The Saints will return linebacker Nephi Sewell, who has not played this season after tearing his ACL last year, and safety Will Harris, who has not played since Week 6 due to a hamstring injury.

Commanders rule out RB Robinson, CB Lattimore vs. Steelers

0

Both players are dealing with hamstring injuries and neither played last week. Lattimore missed his final game with New Orleans before the Saints traded him on Tuesday; Robinson missed Washington’s victory against the New York Giants.

Robinson, who was limited during practices Wednesday and Thursday, did not practice Friday.

The Commanders will also be without offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas for the second straight game as he deals with an ankle injury. Kicker Austin Seibert, who kicked in Friday’s practice after being limited Thursday and not practicing Wednesday due to a hip injury, is questionable. The team signed Zane Gonzalez to the practice squad as insurance if Seibert can’t kick.

Washington traded three picks to the Saints to acquire Lattimore, sending them third-, fourth- and sixth-round picks and getting back a fifth-round pick. But commanders made it clear from the start that they weren’t sure when Lattimore would be able to play.

“We will always side with player health first,” Washington coach Dan Quinn said.

Lattimore missed the Saints’ Week 2 game against Dallas due to a hamstring injury. Washington wants to make sure he is healthy for the rest of the season.

Washington next week plays at Philadelphia on Thursday. Lattimore worked with coaches on a separate field during Friday’s practice, but Quinn said the team will have a better evaluation Monday of its chances of playing against the Eagles.

Although Robinson has already missed two games this season, he leads the Commanders with 461 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

Washington will use a rotation at running back in Robinson’s absence, starting with Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols. The Commanders could also promote another running back off the practice squad.

They’ve already elevated Chris Rodriguez Jr. three times, so if they do it again, per NFL rules regarding the practice squad, he’ll have to remain on the active roster. They could also opt to elevate Michael Wiley from the practice squad.

49ers to activate Christian McCaffrey from injured reserve, ‘good’ RB vs. Buccaneers in Week 10

0

2023 NFL Offensive Player of the Year is back: San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles tendonitis) will be activated off injured reserve on Saturday. That will allow him to make his debut in the 2024 season on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“We’ll take him off IR tomorrow and then he’ll be ready,” Shanahan said on friday. “Unless something crazy happens on this plane ride, I should be good to go tomorrow once I get out of IR.”

McCaffrey, who led the NFL in rushing yards (1,459) and scrimmage yards (2,023) while co-leading the league in scrimmage touchdowns (21) last season, feels great and ready to battle on Sunday afternoon.

“The last eight weeks have been extremely unfortunate,” McCaffrey said, via NBC Sports Bay Area, on Friday. “For me, it’s very hard to be injured. It’s hard physically, mentally and emotionally, especially when it doesn’t go as you planned. It wasn’t what you expected. Some things just went wrong, but now I feel great. Ready to go.”

His recovery became so serious at one point that he traveled to Germany to seek alternative treatments for his injury, something he declined to go into detail about when asked.

“I keep all that private,” McCaffrey said. “When you’re on IR and you’re hurt, you do anything to get back. So now I feel good. That’s all that matters.”

When he finally returned to practice on Monday, McCaffrey was overcome with gratitude.

“Sometimes it can be dark and, especially with something like this, you feel like you have to watch games, you feel physical pain,” McCaffrey said. “There are a lot of things involved in this. I think about football every day of my life. It consumes about 98% of my life, so when it doesn’t go well, it can be very difficult. But the only thing I know is that it makes you Realize how blessed and lucky you are to play when you’re on that field.”

The 49ers, who are 4-4 this season without him, could take a big leap now that McCaffrey is back. They are 22-5 with CMC in the lineup since signing him in 2022, and have outscored opponents by an average of 12.4 points per game when he suits up.

Maxx Crosby and other Raiders express concerns with staff in open meeting after layoffs and latest loss

0

The Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) are enjoying a much-needed bye week after five straight losses. But the team did not spend its free time quietly.

Sources told CBS Sports that several Raiders players, including team captain Maxx Crosby, spoke openly at a players and staff meeting on Monday addressing what they considered inefficiencies and deficiencies within the organization on a week-to-week basis.

The hope for everyone involved is that the talks result in some positive change for the Raiders in the second half of the season.

Head coach Antonio Pierce fired three offensive coaches Sunday night after the Raiders’ 41-24 loss to Cincinnati. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello were relieved of their duties after Sunday’s game.

On Monday morning, Pierce was reworking his offensive staff. Scott Turner, who was previously offensive coordinator in Washington and Carolina, would eventually be named interim offensive coordinator. The Raiders never hired an offensive line assistant coach, which is somewhat unusual, but they named senior offensive assistant Joe Philbin as the new OL coach. Philbin had been working regularly with that group all season, which meant he didn’t need to be an assistant.

Assistant quarterbacks coach Fred Walker did not earn a promotion despite Scangarello’s firing, but the team added Scott’s father, Norv Turner, to the team in an advisory role. Turner, 72, is a three-time and longtime head coach. NFL Offensive coordinator. Turner, Philbin and Marvin Lewis are all former head coaches on Pierce’s staff.

After Monday’s coaches meeting, the team met with the staff and the floor was left open for anyone to speak their mind. According to sources present, some themes emerged. The players had problems because the schedule was not efficient. There was a lack of organization and “waste of time,” and there was a “lack of discipline and responsibility.”

One source described the meeting as ending “uncomfortably for all parties.” But this meeting was certainly nothing like one between the players and the head coach almost exactly a year ago.

Just days before Mark Davis fired Josh McDaniels as head coach, McDaniels opened the floor to the players. They criticized McDaniels for how he behaved and led the team. Word reached the owner and McDaniels was fired a few days later, on Halloween.

Players rallied for Pierce to get the permanent job last year when the team went 5-4 with him at the helm. The Raiders did the bare minimum to comply with league rules in their pursuit before installing Pierce as permanent head coach, which had been the expectation around the league since the Christmas Day victory over the Chiefs.

Pierce and his revamped coaching staff are hoping for another strong second half of the season. And it starts when the players return from the break on Monday to prepare for the Miami Dolphins.

Khadija Shaw says Manchester City can raise their level to be “unstoppable”

0

While it was an enjoyable evening for Manchester City, it was a night to forget for Tottenham as they were comfortably defeated.

There was a catalog of individual errors, and perhaps they were lucky not to have conceded even more goals, especially in the first half.

Spurs boss Robert Vilahamn says Shaw’s early goal “killed the momentum” and his team struggled to recover.

“Mentally it’s very difficult. You can see the players’ self-confidence being lost for a while before they get back into the game,” he told Sky Sports.

“We just have to understand how good it is [City] We are in the second part and we should not give away more [goals].

“It’s also a mix of quality. Errors are something we need to develop, we need to act better in some of these situations.”

“We need to find ways not to concede these goals so easily. Self-confidence is a mix of performances, so it’s a mix of things.”

Defender Molly Bartrip said the goal was the worst possible way to start against City and they then faced an uphill battle.

But he added that it is up to the players to “question each other” about why they are making so many mistakes, which, he insisted, “is not good enough.”

“Our identity will develop from behind and that’s something we want to do. I don’t think we will change our game in that way,” he added.

“Of course, there is a time and a place for it. If we are not doing well, then we will have to start going further and lengthening the game.

“But we concede goals too easily and it’s something we need to address.

“We have to start looking at it and questioning each other about why these goals weren’t met. Obviously it’s not good enough.”

Cowboys to place QB Dak Prescott on IR with hamstring injury

0

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, Jones said: “I think there’s probably no way he can come back in the four-week period, so we’ll put him there and have that spot on the list to use in terms of the next four.” weeks and going from there is obviously a very, very difficult situation, losing him during that period, but we are going to do what is best for Dak and right now I don’t think anyone knows if that is the case. We’ll just have to keep monitoring that and see where it takes us.”

Multiple sources said Prescott expects 6-8 weeks of recovery due to the partial hamstring avulsion he suffered in last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

He has sought numerous opinions on the injury and earlier Friday, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said in the Fan that there is still no answer as to whether Prescott will require surgery.

If he has surgery, he would miss the rest of the regular season. In 2022, left tackle Tyron Smith suffered a complete hamstring avulsion just before the start of the season and missed the first 13 games.

“He has to rest a few weeks before we can see if he really requires surgery and that’s why he doesn’t want surgery. He wants to be on the field and fight for it,” Jerry Jones said. “And he’s weighing that, we’re weighing that and we’ll see how it goes here.”

Prescott will likely be placed on injured reserve on Saturday as the Cowboys look to elevate a player from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. That would keep him out for at least the next four games until Dec. 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he would likely need more time to return.

By then, the Cowboys (3-5) could be well out of the playoff race with four games remaining in the regular season.

“Very aware that it’s there, very aware that it could happen,” Jerry Jones said, “but that kind of thinking hasn’t come into play.”

Patriots claim former Pro Bowl pass rusher after Ravens release, report says

0
The Baltimore Ravens made a roster change ahead of their 35-34 Thursday night victory against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team waived former Pro Bowl pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue in hopes of re-signing him to their practice squad. according to ESPN.

However, the Ravens’ calculated risk did not pay off as they were unable to re-sign him since the New England Patriots (2-7) released him off waivers on Friday.according to NFL Media. New England made this move to help boost a weakened pass rush. They have generated the fifth-lowest quarterback pressure rate (29.8%) and have had the fourth-fewest sacks (16) in the entire NFL.

Ngakoue, a Pro Bowl selection with the Jaguars in 2017, recorded 1.5 sacks in five games this season with the Ravens. Ngakoue, who has played for five different franchises since leaving the Jaguars (his original team) in 2020, is returning from an ankle injury he suffered late in the 2023 season as a member of the Chicago Bears.

The 29-year-old has 70.5 career sacks, 21 forced fumbles and 72 tackles for loss. Ngakoue earned a reputation as a pass rush specialist, tallying at least eight sacks in each of his first seven NFL seasons. That puts him in a club with three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald (2015-2020) and three Hall of Famers: DeMarcus Ware (2005-2011), Derrick Thomas (1989-1995) and Reggie White (1985). -1991) – as the only players to accomplish that feat in their first seven seasons since sacks became an individual statistic in 1982. The last time he did it was in 2022 with the Indianapolis Colts. His 70.5 career sacks are tied for ninth-most in the NFL with Trey Hendrickson since he entered the league as a third-round pick of the Jaguars in 2016. Ngakoue will now play for seven teams in his nine-year career in the NFL. NFL, competing with the Jaguars (2016-2019), the Vikings (2020), the Ravens (2020, 2024), the Raiders (2021), the Colts (2022), the Bears (2023) and the Patriots (2024).
