20 -year -old browser set to close as a result of the new online security law of the United Kingdom

The free text MMO browser game, Urban Dead, will barely close its twentieth anniversary due to the introduction of the United Kingdom online security law.

In a statement, wearing the developer of Gamedeveloper, developer Kevan Davis said that as the law applies to “all social and games websites where users interact” and “strong corporate size fines [apply] Even for solo web projects, “it was no longer” feasible “to maintain the online browser game.

“It is sad that you have to announce that Urban Dead will close on Friday, March 14, 2025, due to an upcoming change in the United Kingdom website legislation,” Davis wrote.

“The online security law enters into force at the end of this month, applying to all social and games websites where users interact, and especially those without strong age restrictions. With the possibility that strong corporate size fines even for solo web projects like this, I have finished reluctantly that it does not seem feasible that Urban Dead can continue to operate.

“So about 19 full years, 8 months and 11 days after its quarantine began, Urban Dead will close. Without a great end. Without final catastrophe. Without EVAC by helicopter. Make your peace or final position anywhere in Malton that calls home, and the game will go out in Noon UTC on March 14″.

On that date, the game wiki will be released only reading only, but Davis told the players “if Urban Dead was revived or turned in some way in the future, it will be announced on this website.”

The developer closed by offering reimbursement any IP unlock donation made in the last six months “on request,” since the closure was “unexpected.”

“If you are glad that the game will be awake as much as I did, you can pick me up a lyophilized coffee,” Davis added.

Last month, the United Kingdom government rejected consumption laws to better protect players from the United Kingdom harmed by the sun or “disable” live service games.
