Where Shedeur Sanders ends up being selected in the NFL draft is one of the largest mysteries. The Pittsburgh Steelers want to enter the mixture in case the Colorado Field Marshal falls.
The Steelers are bringing Sanders as one of their 30 visits prior to the draft this week, according to multiple reports. Pittsburgh currently has the number 21 selection in the draft, so the Steelers anticipate that Sanders will experience a significant fall in the draft and/or will be negotiated to grab Sanders in case it falls.
Sanders is the field marshal number 2 projected in this kind of draft, since the Tennessee Titans have shown signs that Cam Ward are taking in number 1 in general. So where does that leave Sanders? The Cleveland Browns have general selection number 2 and New York giants are in number 3, and both franchises need a franchise field marshal. The giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this low season, so there is no immediate need for Sanders.

If the Browns do not take Sanders to number 2, there is a notion of Sanders could fall into the draft with giants who do not have a great need in quarterback. After the Jets of New York (No. 7) and the Saints of New Orleans (No. 9), Sanders could fall significantly by the Draft Board. The Jets paid Justin Fields in the free agency to be their regular field marshal, while the Saints gave Derek Carr a massive contract two seasons (and still have great success with Carr).
Even with the Steelers waiting for a decision of Aaron Rodgers, this is where Sanders enters. Pittsburgh lost Wilson and Fields in free agency, and only have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson in the depth table. Steelers can bring Sanders and see how it fits in their system in case they want to change and write it.
Pittsburgh can still sign Rodgers even if he finds a way to mark Sanders, since the franchise can develop Sanders while giving Rodgers the initial work by 2025. Rodgers can be wearing his options anyway, so selecting Sanders would not be a bad idea. In the worst case, Steelers have a field marshal they can develop.
