Alyssa Healy doubtful for rest of Ashes series as she misses first T20I

Australia captain Alyssa Healy is a major doubt for the remainder of the Ashes series after she was ruled out of the first T20I with a “stress response” to her foot on the same side as the injury she suffered in the World Cup Last year’s T20.

It meant Australia were led by Tahlia McGrath as they aimed to go 8-0 up and retain the Ashes in Sydney, while Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney would fill the top-order vacancy and take the wicket.

Australia also had to deal with the loss of all-rounder Ash Gardner with a calf injury. She will be assessed again before the second T20I in Canberra.

Healy’s injury meant Australia delayed announcing its squad for the day-night Test at the MCG, which was due to be named during the T20I on Monday.

“Alyssa has a stress response in her foot,” high performance boss Shawn Flegler told Fox cricket. “We’re going to try to get a little more information before we call her. It’s a big decision for Alyssa. She’s also a Test captain. So we’ll wait and see what we come up with next.” 24-48 hours.”

“We have a selectors’ meeting tomorrow morning. We will see what happens. We are not going to rush it. There is still about a week before the Test match.

After returning from the plantar fascia injury suffered in the World Cup, Healy saw her WBBL interrupted by a knee problem, which also meant she played as a batsman only in the ODIs against New Zealand in December, having missed the previous home series against India.

He returned to duty for all three ODIs against England and the matches took place in six days. The schedule is also tight for the T20I series with games in Canberra on January 23 and then Adelaide on January 25.

Even if Healy can play a role in any of them, there will be big doubts over whether she can handle the workload of a Test match, especially as a goalkeeper.
