AppLovin cuts another 97 jobs, including CEO of subsidiary studio Machine Zone

Applavin has fired 97 people, including “most” the personnel used in Subsidiary Studio Machine Zone and its CEO.

As seen by Pocketgamer, these 97 more recent layoffs, which were effective as of March 21 according to Warn presentations (workers adjustment and training notification) in California, enter a previous redundancy round at the beginning of this year in which 89 people lost their jobs in January 2025.

It is the seventh Warn Notification notification applied since June 2022, with 120 jobs affected in November 2024 and 126 in October.

Pocketgamer informs that the CEO and design director in Machine Zone, the team behind mobile games such as game of War: Fire Age and Mobile Strike, has been affected, with the position of CTO cut in the previous round of layoffs.

A former employee hinted that “most of the machine’s area was closed.”

Apploin has not yet publicly commented on cuts, but is currently recruiting for new roles.

Only in the first three months of 2025, 1600 developers have lost their work, with cuts and closures in Freejam, splash damage, Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, Ubisoft, probably monsters, Iron Galaxy, Sumo Group, Liquid Sword, Net Dawnisters, Monidas Monidos.
