The developer of Doom: The Dim Ages has shown that it will have gameplay speed and sliders for the main presentation in an identification toolkit.
Previous ID tool first-person shooters have featured a selection of theme options, similar to the iconic Doom settings “I’m Too Young to Die,” “Hurt Me Plenty,” and “Nightmare.” Doom: The Dim Ages will detail a better customization stage.
“Under the hood, for the first time in an ID game, we’ve made our combat more accessible and flexible than ever,” executive producer Marty Stratton said in a video shown during the intact Xbox Developer Direct presentation.
Stratton soon showed off an unused options screen with the usual difficulty atmosphere (prepared for Harm Me Plethora in the case), along with a series of alternative modifier sliders that can also be adjusted via the player.
The ones that come with the power deal sudden damage to the player and enemies with each hit, and generate future or slower enemy projectiles.
Additionally, it contains enemy aggression, parry window territory, territory of present enemies who are stunned, and useful resource values.
Probably most impressive is the ability to control the entire speed of the game, meaning that players who can’t control the game‘s fast gameplay can slow it down to something more manageable (and, of course, those who are in search of a problem may occur even earlier).
“A new difficulty system and sliders will allow players to adjust the speed and challenge of the game to what suits them best,” Stratton explained. “You can slow things down or speed things up – it’s a Doom for all Slayers.”
Elsewhere in the video, Stratton also noted that The Dim Ages story can be a great build-up for those who have never played a Doom game before.
“It’s a new story and the perfect entry point for new players,” he mentioned. “It’s easier to access now, as we’ve taken the narrative from the Codex and put it into the cutscenes, introducing new characters, old allies, and powerful new villains. And for returning players, it leads directly into the testaments of Doom 2016 Slayer.”
