Caring a PC game to console is difficult, especially if the game in question is of a traditionally native genre of the PC. It may be difficult to make the transition through the platforms without losing something along the way, but in the case of dunes, the game has been “designed with a controller in mind.”
All this, without any word about when a version of console comes out. In fact, the launch of the game on PC (which we know will come first) is also a mystery. To help find out what considerations they took with this inevitable multiplatform launch, I sat down and talked to Nils Ryborg. Ryborg is a producer in Dune Awakening, but before his time in Funcom he worked in the port of Pillas console of eternity in Paradox, so he could provide a unique vision on the process.

“The fight there, I remember pillars of eternity (laughs), we spent a lot of time trying to discover the UX in it, and they brought some influences from the action role games, especially with the way you move.” Ryborg declared. “It is mainly a very tactical game, and you are obviously very limited when you use a controller. So we create architects of which you could work, so you can make your NPC make better decisions and direct them a bit.”
He continues: “We made it easier .
So, that was what the paradox team had to do, what about Funcom? Was your approach to the same, or were considerations take to make the transition a little less problems?
“Then, from the beginning, it is the easiest way to make an game, go to the console first. A lot of that makes an easily transition on the PC, while if you make a pure PC game where you use a mouse and A keyboard to control is really difficult to ignore.
“Obviously, we are first launching on PC first, right? So that is where we will have a good configuration, but the UX console, in terms of UX, I am not very worried. Obviously they are all classical technological things, you know, where, where They are a little more limited in certain hardware things.
So, while those who anticipate dunes awakening in the console will still have to cover for a while, waiting for more information, at least they should be happy to know that the version they get will not be drastically different from their peers on the PC.
