Gamescom 2026 Sells Out All Exhibition Space for the First Time

Gamescom 2026 exhibition space has officially sold out, and organizers say it’s the first time in the show’s entire history that every single exhibition area has been fully booked.

That’s not a small claim. Gamescom has been running since 2009 and has weathered everything from the Covid-era shutdown to years of steadily climbing attendance. For every square meter of floor space to go before the show even opens is a genuinely new milestone, and it says something about where publisher confidence sits heading into August.

Why this happened

According to game — The German Games Industry Association, which co-runs the event with Koelnmesse, even last year’s expansion of the exhibition space wasn’t enough to keep up with demand. Gamescom 2025 had already extended into Hall 8 and Hall 10.2 to accommodate a record number of bookings, and apparently that still wasn’t enough room. Publishers and developers are showing up in bigger numbers than ever, and the organizers are now openly discussing expanding the venue further for 2027.

Gamescom Director Tim Endres called the sellout a strong signal for the industry, and honestly, it’s hard to argue otherwise. When a trade show outgrows its own expansions two years running, that’s not hype — that’s just demand outpacing supply.

New exhibitors joining the floor

A batch of new names has been confirmed for gamescom 2026, including Konami, Tencent Games, Embark Studios, Level Infinite, Giants, aerosoft, and NC. They’re joining an already stacked lineup that includes Xbox, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Capcom, CD Projekt RED, SEGA, Bandai Namco, and Krafton. That’s about as complete a snapshot of the global games industry as any single show can offer.

Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association, went as far as calling gamescom 2026 the biggest edition in the event’s history — both on-site in Cologne and across livestreams for people watching from home.

Opening Night Live and what to expect

Geoff Keighley returns to host Opening Night Live once again, with Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere back as co-host. The show is set for August 25, and if the exhibitor list is anything to go by, expect a packed lineup of trailers and reveals. If you’re also following the leaked Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition news, it’s worth noting Ubisoft’s own August 6 Ghost Recon anniversary announcement lands just weeks before the show, so there’s a real chance Gamescom ties into whatever gets revealed there.

The gamescom awesome indies show is also getting a deeper partnership with IGN this year, which should mean more visibility for smaller studios that don’t have the budget for a massive booth.

What if you don’t have a ticket yet

If you were hoping to grab Business or Entertainment tickets late, the exhibition sellout doesn’t necessarily mean general attendance tickets are gone too — those are separate from exhibitor floor space. But given Opening Night Live tickets reportedly sold out almost instantly this year, don’t expect much slack. Your best bet at this point is watching the livestream coverage, which Gamescom has consistently made a priority for fans who can’t make it to Cologne in person.

A sold-out show isn’t just a logistics story — it’s a signal that publishers see real value in showing up in person again, after a stretch where some major companies scaled back trade show presence. Whether that optimism translates into genuinely exciting reveals on August 25 is a separate question, but the appetite is clearly there.
