John Davison named Italy T20 coach in the midst of World Cup impulse

John Davison, the former Canadian captain and Australian state Crick player, has been appointed T20i coach of Italy while pressing for a place in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Italy will participate in the European regional finals of the World Cup T20 classification in the Netherlands since the end of June, which will provide two sides for the main tournament in early 2026. They will be presented next to the Netherlands, Scotland, Guernsey and Jersey.

“I am excited and honored to be appointed coach of the Italian male program T20,” Davison said. “I was not very convincing once I heard about the players and the people involved.

“I have experienced the emotion of qualifying for the world’s drinks as a player for Canada, and I hope to repeat that emotion with a diverse and dedicated group of players and personnel that represents Italy.”

Since he retired, he has been a coach and consultant of turnover, even with Australia, and has worked hard with people like Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Sweepson and Matt Kuhnemann.

Davison will work with the new Captain of Italy, the former opener of Queensland and Australia, Joe Burns, who began playing for them in May last year, having described through his mother’s inheritance.

Together with Burns, Ben and Harry Manenti have also represented Italy. It is understood that Tasmania Jake Doran and Tim Ward couple are disputed by the qualifiers through their Italian heritage, although they are still waiting for approval to play. Matthew Fotia, a former Quick Victoria, and Jason Ralston, who appeared for Australia U19, are also in the mixture.

“I feel honored to assume this role and represent Italy on the international stage,” Burns said when he named Captain. “For me, it is a return to the roots of my family. Italian cricket has enormous potential and I am excited to contribute to its growth. Together with my teammates, we are working to achieve ambitious goals and proud our fans.”
