KOTOR remakes reveal rumours are back in the conversation again, and this time there’s an actual date attached to the speculation — 2028.

Every few months, someone at Saber Interactive says something vague and reassuring, fans get briefly excited, and then months pass with nothing concrete. It’s become almost a running joke in the games press — PC Gamer has literally published a recurring “yes, it’s still alive” check-in article. But the most recent comment is a little more specific than the usual “we can’t say anything yet.”

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake was first revealed back in September 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase, originally in development at Aspyr Media. That version was shelved in 2022 after a Bloomberg report confirmed development had stalled, and the project moved to Saber Interactive, another studio under the (now former) Embracer Group umbrella. Since then, updates have been sparse, and skepticism has been fair.
What’s kept hope alive is a string of short but consistent statements from Saber’s side. Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits has repeated versions of the same line more than once: “Yes, it is still in development. That’s all I can say.” Not exactly thrilling, but it’s at least confirmation the project hasn’t quietly died.
The 2028 comment
The newest wrinkle comes from Saber’s new business boss, who said the remake will “hopefully” be out in 2028. Read that carefully, because the hedge matters. We’re only at the midpoint of 2026 right now, and “hopefully 2028” from someone still two-plus years out is the kind of comment that usually means there’s real work left to do — and real room for further delays. It’s not a broken promise waiting to happen, but it’s also not a locked release date.
What about KOTOR 2?
There’s also been chatter about a Knights of the Old Republic 2 remake sitting on Saber’s internal roadmap, alongside a mysterious secondary project referred to internally as “Juliet.” Details on both surfaced through court documents tied to a 2023 false-advertising lawsuit involving Aspyr and Lucasfilm — not exactly the kind of source you’d expect major game news to come from, but that’s where a lot of the recent clarity has actually come from. It suggests Saber is thinking beyond just the first game, even if nothing’s been formally announced.
Should you get your hopes up for a reveal soon?
Cautiously, yes — but keep expectations in check. Nothing here confirms a Game Awards reveal, a Gamescom appearance, or any specific event.
