Frisco, Texas-after 11 years with the Dallas Cowboys, the Demarcus Lawrence defensive wing chose to sign a three-year agreement that is worth a base value of $ 32.5 million with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent this week.
But his words upon his arrival northwest of the Pacific caused the anger of former teammate Micah Parsons on Thursday.
In statements to the Seahawks blogger, Brian Nemhauser, Lawrence said: “A change in the landscape is always good, but Dallas is my home. I did my home there, my family lives there, I will always be there. But I know that I will not win a Super Bowl there, so yes. Here.”
That caused an answer in X of Parsons, Lawrence’s teammate for four years and a companion passes corridor.
“This is how rejection and envy look! This cloth s —!” Parsons wrote.
Several members of the Cowboys organization were upset with Lawrence’s comment on Thursday night, sources told ESPN.
Lawrence was lost the last 13 games last season after suffering a Lufranc injury on his right foot. There was hope that he could return at the end of the year, but the Cowboys fought for a 7-10 end that finally led to a change of training in Mike McCarthy’s head to Brian Schottenheimer.
Lawrence returned to Parsons, pointing out the use of Pro Bowl’s social networks Edge Ruster. Parsons also makes a podcast during the season for the Bleacher report.
“Calling me a clown will not change the fact that I told him the truth. Maybe if you spent less tweet and more time winning, I wouldn’t have gone,” Lawrence wrote in X.
Before free agency, Lawrence told Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he would like to stay with the cowboys.
“The ball is on its court,” he said. “I’m not only going to play in Dallas. I’m going to have other options, but I would like to stay here. It would be glorious.”
The cowboys were not going to make an offer similar to what Lawrence received from the Seahawks, which included $ 18 million in guaranteed money and could reach a maximum of $ 42 million with incentives and mechanical stairs. Lawrence will count $ 7,445 million against the limit of cowboys in 2025.
Lawrence was appointed for the Pro Bowl four times with the cowboys after being selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. It has registered 61.5 race catches.
“I always knew that I had more,” he said in his availability of media with journalists on Thursday. “Just thinking and wanting a Super Bowl, not everyone joins if all the pieces are not there. For me to have another opportunity to go and pursue my dream of winning a Super Bowl with a good team and the pieces are in its place, I had to take advantage of my chance.”
The cowboys and Seahawks will not be played in the regular 2025 season. But a playoffs meeting would be juicy.
