Myles Garrett requests Browns’ trade after eight seasons at Cleveland

Myles Garrett has requested an exchange of the Cleveland Browns. The Star Pass corridor announced his request in a statement on Monday, recognizing his admiration for Cleveland but emphasizing his desire to win a Super Bowl.

“As a child dreaming of the NFL, everything I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl, and that goal feeds me more than ever,” Garrett said in a statement, through NFL.com. “My love for the community of the Northeast of Ohio and the incredible fans base of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the most difficult decisions of my life. These last eight years I have shaped the man I am today.

“While I loved to call this city my home, my desire to win and compete in the biggest stages will not allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete and win a Super Bowl.

“With that in mind, I have requested that they change my Cleveland Browns.”

Garrett, 29, has been with the organization since the Browns wrote it with the general selection number 1 in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. Since his arrival at the League, Garrett has been one of the best defensive players throughout the League, which includes a prize to the NFL’s defensive player during the 2023 season.

The six times All-Pro (two second team) has counted seven consecutive seasons with two-digit catches and has exceeded at least 14 catches in each of the last four years. In 17 games played this season, Garrett totaled 14 captures, 28 field seafood blows, three forced loose balls and 22 tacle leaders in the league for loss.

With this public application now, it will be fascinating to see how the Browns work. Only a few weeks ago, the general manager Andrew Berry was asked directly about the possibility of tradeing Garett, who is currently under contract during the 2026 season. To that speculation, Berry said he I would not change Garrett for two first round teamsillustrating his lack of desire to move him. Now that the formal application is out there, however, it will be interesting to see how that changes.
