Niantic has fired 68 employees after the company’s acquisition of $ 3.5 billion for the subsidiary of the Savvy Scopely game Group.
As seen by the game developer, Niantic presented a notification of adjustment and retention of workers (Warn) in California, a process that requires employers to provide workers with a notice of 60 days before a massive dismissal.
In the last Warn report of the Employment Development Department of the State of California, he details the decision of Niantic that results in the layoffs of 68 people who will enter into force on May 20, 2025.
The layoffs were announced for the first time on March 20, after an internal email of the CEO of Niantic, John Hanke, which was subsequently published on the firm’s website.
“Niantic is being divided into two companies, with the acquisition of our business and game team, and the turn of our technology platform in Niantic Spatial Inc.,” Hanke wrote.
“As we embarked on our new trip as Niantic Spatial, we will have to operate as a start organization.”
“We carefully evaluate the structure that we believe is necessary for the new company, and after a lot of consideration, it was clear that some roles would not be required given our new approach.”
Hanke continued: “These decisions are never easy; in no way reflect people’s performance, and we understand their impact on people’s lives. We deeply appreciate the talented people who helped us to get here and for their many contributions, and we will support them as they pass to new opportunities.”
