The Detroit Lions agreed to a three -year contract and $ 48 million with the corner of the free agent DJ Reed, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN, since they move quickly to replace the head corner Carlton Davis III.
Davis and the New England patriots previously agreed a $ 60 million three -year contract that includes $ 34.5 million fully guaranteed, sources told Schefter.
This was Reed’s second incursion into free agency. In 2022, he signed a three -year contract and $ 33 million with the New York Jets. It seemed a great contract for a player who had started only a full season (Seattle Seahawks, 2021), but quickly settled as one of the best defensive players of the jets.
Playing all the time as corner number 2, along with Star Sauce Gardner, Reed proved to be a reliable defender in the area and man to man’s schemes. He played larger than its size (5 feet 9), recording 32 passes defended from 2022 to 2024.
The Jets rarely assigned their corners to cover specific receptors, so Reed (used almost exclusively on the right side) was often in receiver No. 1 of the opponent. Disseminate reasonably well last season, allowing only a pin rating of 80.4, 19 of 77 corners (minimum: 250 coverage snapshots), according to statistics of the next generation of the NFL.
Reed, however, has registered only six interceptions in seven seasons and has 21 sanctions accepted in the last three years. That includes 185 yards in pass-interference sanctions, the highest total of the League. In 2024, he led the team with eight Paso de Paso de Paso.
Reed broke into the NFL as a selection of the fifth round of the 49ers of San Francisco in 2018. Seahawks picked it up in exemptions in 2020, and was there, under the then coach of the seat Pete Carroll, which Reed began to reinvent himself. He has played 101 games, including 70 openings.
