The free agent Mike Williams returns to Chargers

The open receiver of the free agent Mike Williams agreed an agreement with the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced Wednesday night.

The parties agreed on a one -year agreement worth up to $ 6 million, a source told Kris Rhim de ESPN, confirming a Fox Sports report.

It marks a return to Los Angeles for Williams, 30, who spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Chargers. They selected him with the seventh selection in the Clemson 2017 NFL Draft.

Williams had only two seasons with more than 1,000 reception yards, including 2019, when he led the league with 20.4 yards per reception.

Williams left the Chargers and signed with the jets as a free agent the last low season, but never set off in New York, registering only 12 catches in 21 targets for 166 yards in nine games.

Then, the Jets treated the Pittsburgh Steelers on the exchange deadline in exchange for a fifth round selection.

Although Williams made a great impact on his debut on the Steelers with the capture of TouchDown winning against Washington’s commanders on November 10, he played a limited role for the rest of the season, ending with nine trapped in 13 targets for 132 yards in nine games.

During the first eight years of his career at the NFL, Williams recorded 32 catches of TouchDown and 5,104 reception yards in 330 receptions. He has had some durability problems, tearing an LCA in week 3 of season 2023 and losing four games plus the defeat of the Chargers playoff the previous season.

Now he meets with Field Marshal Justin Herbert in a group of chargers receptors that includes Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.

Brooke Pryor de ESPN contributed to this report.
