While his former team continues to seek the long -term successor of Ben Roethlisberger, the legend of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Hins Ward, recently compared a promising university quarterback with Big Ben, his field marshal for eight of his 14 seasons in Pittsburgh.
Ward, who currently serves as a coach of the state of Arizona, recently said that the Sun Devils Campal Marshals, Sam Leavitt, reminds Roethlisberger, a two -time Super Bowl champion and future member of the Hall of Fame. Leavitt, a second -year student of the state of Michigan, helped take the state of Arizona to a Big 12 championship and a birth in the university soccer playoff expanded during his first year as the seafood of the school head of the school.
“And a coach who is on the sidelines, I can tell you, when (there is a) TV waiting time, when we are all in the bank, Sam has that look in his eyes, as we will not stop. We are going to score,” said Ward recently about Leavitt. “He wants to score every time he touched a football ball. And he looked like Ben Roethlisberger. Every time he looked at Ben and his eyes, he knew we were going to win the game because he appeared that. He was not going to be denied that we win.
Ward said Leavitt is so competitive that sometimes fights to give up a play. That was a challenge with which Roethlisberger also tried during his early years in Pittsburgh.
“He wants to make each play instead of getting it out of the limits,” Ward said. “Ben had the same fight. He just wanted to make each play, he wanted to make sure he can try to do everything possible to do the work. Sam has those intangibles.”
It is not as big as Roethlisberger, but the 6 -foot Leavitt 2 and 200 pounds has a similar style of play. While it is not a race QB, Leavitt is not afraid to take off the field, even if that means taking a lick of multiple defenders. Leavitt is also skilled to make launch in the race (something that Raethlisberger routinely did at the beginning of his career) while giving his receptors the possibilities of making plays.
Leavitt also has budding leadership skills that remind Ward the former field marshal of the Steelers.
“He is taking him to another level, being more a vocal leader, understanding that this is his team, and wants to lead with the example,” Ward said. “He is the first type that exists. If you are wrong or you run the wrong route, it will put you on you. That is what you want. You want that dominant application of your Quarterback, understanding that this is the level at which I hope everyone is in … I love it and our boys begin to respond to it.
“He has that murderous look in him, that we will not fail that Sam be in that group. That is what I love him.”
While Ward would probably love if they could, Steelers cannot recruit Leavitt next month, since he is one year after being eligible for the draft. But if Pittsburgh is in a similar place this time in a year, it is safe to assume that the franchise will at least take a look at a player who speaks so well.
