The Nintendo Switch reveal number has been viewed more than 17 million times in less than 48 hours on its US YouTube channel, ahead of the PlayStation 5 reveal in 2020.
By comparison, the official PlayStation 5 reveal trailer racked up around 13.3 million views, two days after its reveal in June 2020. The first trailer for the original Switch racked up 19.5 million during the same two-day window and was later removed from the list.
In total, the PS5 reveal trailer has been viewed about 44 million times since it was posted almost five years ago, with 1.6 million likes.
In less than 48 hours, the Switch 2 reveal has received almost 1 million likes, so it’s likely to surpass PS5’s all-time numbers in the near future. On Saturday, the Switch 2 reveal was the number one trend on YouTube.
On X (formerly Twitter) the numbers are even more significant: the Switch 2 video has been viewed more than 40 million times on the Nintendo of America account and more than 51 million times on the Japanese account.
According to a Bloomberg report published this week, citing analyst Robin Zhu, Nintendo has prepared to sell 20 million Switch 2 units when it launches.
In a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal video released on Thursday, the platform holder confirmed that the console will launch this year, with a full reveal planned for April 2.
As expected, Switch 2 will have a similar form factor to the original Switch, with detachable joints – this time magnetic – and a large screen. Nintendo also showed off what appears to be a new Mario Kart game during the trailer.
Commenting on the revelation, Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Japanese games industry consultancy Kantan Games, told VGC that shareholders seemed happy that previous Switch 2 leaks were true and that Nintendo was playing play it safe with the design of the new console.
