The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel might be inspired by Dishonored

With the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel currently under development, CDPR considers whether drawing inspiration from the Dishonored games could improve the sequel.

The Polish developer, CD Projekt Red, considers how it can enhance the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise as it moves forward with a number of projects in development, with the potential for the sequel to draw inspiration from the Dishonored series. Even though it's not everyone's cup of tea, stealth games are a huge hit and there are a ton of options available. Many players find excitement in the idea of sneaking around an environment, silently dispatching attackers, stealing in-game items, or cowering from terrifying threats.

While it usually works in third person, first-person games like Dishonored have successful stealth mechanics as well, thanks to fantastic level design. As a result, the steampunk assassin series from Arkane Studio has had a significant influence on the genre. Although there hasn't been a new installment since the 2016 sequel, it appears that it is still making an impact on the industry and even serving as inspiration for other developers.

Miles Tost, CD Projekt Red's lead level designer, expressed his desire to find ways to enhance the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game in a recent interview with IGN. Invoking both Dishonored games, the developer notes how they reward players for taking different paths during missions and continues, saying that CDPR must "treat paths as special" in order to infuse "value in the choices players make." Tost continues by claiming that Cyberpunk's paths would bottleneck, effectively giving players the impression that their decisions didn't matter. He continues by outlining some fundamental ideas that could be put into practice to give the player the impression that their choice of path was "worth their time."
In addition to the sequel, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a shiny upgrade. This new mode will include Nvidia's RTX Path Tracing Overdrive, which aims to significantly enhance the game's overall lighting and make it even more beautiful. This no-cost update will debut on April 11 for those who want to make Night City stand out.

The working title Project Orion was used to announce the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel in the latter half of 2022. There isn't much information available about the sequel yet, but it sounds like the studio is using what it discovered while creating the first game to improve the next one. However, it might be a while before fans learn anything about the upcoming Cyberpunk game as CDPR is also working on a new Witcher saga.
