The Elder Scrolls 6's Joke Morrowind Mod is an Odd Take on the Game

Morrowind is still being modified today, and one fan uses TES3 to create their own version of the upcoming chapter.

Many people are eagerly awaiting any information regarding The Elder Scrolls 6's whereabouts, but in the meantime, someone has jokingly modified Morrowind to represent the upcoming Bethesda game. Although Skyrim is the most popular Elder Scrolls game, many people regard the third installment as a classic because it was the last true role-playing game created by the developer before the series shifted more toward the action-RPG genre.

Morrowind, despite its age, is still being modded, with a recent one employing AI to add full voice acting to the dated release. It has aged significantly over the last two decades, but this does not diminish its significance. Not only was it a visual improvement over 1996's The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall, but it was also a console triumph at the time, as no other game of this magnitude could possibly hope to be compatible with the likes of the original Xbox until TES3.

Recently, a Morrowind mod that attempts to reimagine The Elder Scrolls 6 has been released, providing a brief glimpse into the future. The Nexus Mods user stupidcatgirl is aiming for something a little silly with her modification, which is referred to as the series' next installment, as noticed by PC Gamer. With a message stating that this is just another of their "gag mods," they do make it clear that this was not meant to be taken seriously. Of course, a quick glance at a few of the images reveals that this is in no way intended to be TES6. It's a jumble of bizarre images that aren't meant to be sincere. Even a video that purports to be the first few minutes of the eagerly anticipated RPG exists. It's just some footage from this modified version of Morrowind, though it also includes an instrumental rendition of "Another Day in Paradise" by Phil Collins.

It should be stated once more that stupidcatgirl only intends for this to be a joke. But it makes sense that some people would go to great lengths to play the newest installment in Bethesda's epic fantasy series. The Elder Scrolls 6 wasn't officially revealed until after a teaser was released in 2018. There is currently no information available regarding the release date of the subsequent game, but after Starfield is released later this year, perhaps some information will become available.

It's encouraging to see that Morrowind, which turned 20 last year, is still receiving support from the community. There will always be fans of the Elder Scrolls series who will fondly look back to the earlier installments to remind themselves of how it all began. The Elder Scrolls series may have deviated from its origins, appealing to a wider audience of gamers.

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind released in 2002 for PC and the original Xbox.
