Sony Interactive Entertainment Takes Top Spot in Annual Game Publisher Rankings

Metacritic Ranks Sony as Highest-Rated Game Publisher for 2022.

The well-known game review aggregation website Metacritic has named Sony Interactive Entertainment as the highest-rated publisher of 2022. The rankings were judged by the caliber of each publisher's releases throughout the duration of the year.

Sony producing the popular PlayStation consoles, came out on top, beating out other notable publishers such as Paradox Interactive, Activision Blizzard, Focus Entertainment, and Take-Two Interactive. God of War Ragnarök, The Last of Us Part 1, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo were among the company's 2022 releases.

Metacritic employed a points system to rank the publishers, taking into account four factors. The average Metascore of the games was the most important factor, but other variables such as the percentage of scored tittles with positive reviews (75 or higher), the proportion of scored tittles with negative reviews (49 or lower), and the quantity of "great" games released (90 or higher) were also considered.

To be included in the rankings, publishers needed to have released five or more distinct titles in 2022. This meant that Microsoft, the winner from last year, missed out completely after a quiet year for the Xbox maker.

3. Activision Blizzard – 76.5 (last year: 4th)
4. Focus Entertainment – 80 (last year: 17th)
5. Take-Two – 78.9 (last year: 27th)
6. Capcom – 78.6 (last year: 6th)
7. Sega – 79.3 (last year: 8th)
8. Annapurna Interactive – 79.2 (last year: 18th)
9. Humble Games – 76.8 (last year: 3rd)
10. Devolver Digital – 78.3 (last year: 11th)
