Final Fantasy 16 Producer Naoki Yoshida Wishes for a Unified Gaming Platform

Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida believes that a single-game platform would be more beneficial.

Yoshida reportedly stated that it would be better for both developers and players if there weren't any competing console platforms in an interview with a Taiwanese YouTube channel that IGN translated.

Yoshida said, "Game platforms... I probably shouldn't say this, but I wish there was only one. It would be better for both the developers and the players." Whoa, that's a big statement, right? He's talking about all those different consoles duking it out for our attention, causing exclusive titles and a bit of a gaming divide.

This game has been ongoing between Sony and Microsoft for a very long time. They've nabbed some awesome third-party games just for their consoles. Ever heard of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake or the shiny new Final Fantasy 16? Yeah, Sony's got the upper hand there. But that might be changing.

Square Enix, the company behind Final Fantasy, made a risky move. They announced that after a decade of PlayStation exclusivity, Final Fantasy 14, a game Yoshida directed, is finally giving Xbox some love. This shows a shift in the gaming universe—a willingness to spread gaming joy across different platforms.

Final Fantasy 16 made its grand entrance on the PlayStation 5, and Square Enix isn't planning to let it wander off to other platforms just yet. They've signed an exclusivity deal for this calendar year. So, if you're an Xbox or PC player, patience is your new best friend.

Yoshida wants Final Fantasy 16 to be released on the PC because he is a dreamer. He mentioned, "First of all, it is true that Final Fantasy 16 is a six-month limited-time exclusive on the PS5 platform." But don't get your hopes up for a speedy PC release. Optimizing the game for the PS5 took serious time and money. Yoshida wants to do the same for PCs, but he's keeping it real—it won't be a half-year gig.

Yoshida is balancing on a tightrope. He's all in for a PC version, but he's not promising a quick fix. "I would like to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I am not at the stage where I can say when." It's all about giving us the best gaming experience, whether we're rocking the PS5 or a gaming rig.
