Emoji reactions to messages are now visible to players, and Sony claims to have "improved the messages and usability on some screens."

The PS4 update arrives at the same time as a major PS5 system update.

Version: 11.00

    • You can now sign in to your PS4 console without a password with the PS App.
    • On your mobile device, scan the QR code to sign in, just like for PS5. Some authentication actions can also use push notifications on the PS App.
    • You can now see emoji reactions to messages.
    • We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.

Version 10.50

    • You can now access your authorized apps in Settings.
    • -- Authorized apps are third-party apps and services that you've linked to your account for PlayStation Network.
    • -- When using an authorized app, you give permission to share your account data with that app.
    • -- To view and manage your authorized apps, go to Settings > Account Management > Authorized Apps, and then scan the QR code with your mobile device.
    • Friends that are active on the PlayStation App will now show up as online on your friends list.
    • Unicode 15.0 emoji can now be displayed.
    • You can see which of the players in your game session are on other platforms for games that support this feature.

Version 10.01

    • This system software update improves system performance.

It now supports Dolby Atmos HDMI devices such as soundbars, TVs, and home theater systems. This allows the console to pass the 3D Audio feature of the PS5 to Atmos devices by rendering the 3D Audio channels (including overhead ones) to Atmos speakers.

It also adds new accessibility features, such as the ability to assign a second controller as an 'assist controller' to a single account and to enable haptic feedback while navigating the PS5 system menu.

New voice commands are now available in the US and UK, and PlayStation Remote Play is now supported on devices running Android TV OS 12.

Sony will broadcast a new State of Play presentation today at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST / 11pm CEST.

The broadcast will "focus on indie and third-party titles from around the world," according to the company, and will include "updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles."
