Rockstar Games Vice President of writing left after 16 years

Michael Unsworth Vice President of Writing left Rockstar Games after 16 years with the company.

Michael Unsworth had been at Rockstar for 16 years, beginning as a senior creative writer in 2007 and progressing to writing director in 2019, after which they served as vice president of writing for two years. Grand Theft Auto 4, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 are among the titles Unsworth is credited with writing during that time.

As spotted by GTA Forum user Rucke and reported by Rockstar Games news account SWEGTA. However, Unsworth did not explicitly post about their departure or make clear their possible next steps.

Mike is an accomplished writer who spent more than 16 years working for Rockstar Games as a creative lead on some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful video game franchises of all time. His LinkedIn profile has been updated to state that he was at Rockstar Games from 2007 until 2023 (it previously stated that he was there from 2007 until the present). His LinkedIn about section has also been updated.

Michael joined Rockstar Games in 2007 as a senior Creative writer, with Grand Theft Auto IV as his first project. He was credited with writing the pedestrian dialogue. Michael also provided the voice for a commercial in GTA IV.

Michael Unsworth has worked on several games.

  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad Of Gay Tony
  • Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and Damned
  • Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
  • Midnight Club Los Angeles
  • Red Dead Redemption
  • Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
  • Max Payne 3
  • L.A. Noire
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Grand Theft Auto: Online
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Red Dead Online

As a creative writer, Michael contributed to every game released since GTA IV. He is credited in Grand Theft Auto V as the Vice President of Writing and for more in-game discussion.

Unsworth's departure isn't the only storyline unfolding in the gaming universe. BioWare, another titan in the industry, bid adieu to Lukas Kristjanson, the mind behind Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, as well as the first three Dragon Age games. Times are changing, and game studios are sailing through uncharted waters.
