PlayStation Productions’ next film project is… Resident Evil


A rebooted Resident Evil movie is reportedly in the works, and major studios are said to be currently bidding on a new movie produced by PlayStation Productions.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming film based on Capcom’s popular survival video game series will be directed by Zach Cregger, the actor and writer who directed the 2022 horror film Barbarian.

Constantin Film, which has owned the screen rights to Resident Evil since the 1990s, will produce the reboot alongside PlayStation Productions, a studio formed in 2019 by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties for film and television in association with Sony. Pictures. .

Shay Hatten, who worked on John Wick: Chapter 4 and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, is said to be co-writing.

According to the publication, four studios are currently bidding for the rights to the film, including Warner Bros. and Netflix.

Six Resident Evil films were released between 2002 and 2016 starring Milla Jovovich, which were a mix of horror, science fiction and action, with Jovovich’s character fighting zombies and the evil Umbrella Corporation. The films grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide.

Constantin has attempted to reboot Resident Evil several times since then. A live-action Resident Evil series will premiere on Netflix in 2022, a year before a live-action film, ‘Welcome to Raccoon City.’ Capcom also released the CGI movie Infinite Darkness that same year.

Meanwhile, the Resident Evil game series is enjoying a good run. Capcom recently announced that its Resident Evil 4 remake has sold more than 9 million copies since its release in March 2023, making it by far the fastest entry in the series.
