Nueva Orleans – The Right Tackle of the Saints Ryan Ramczyk retires from the NFL, announced on his Instagram account Thursday night.
Ramczyk retires after playing seven seasons and winning the honors All-Pro three times from 2018 to 2020. It is the second of two former tacle of the Saints All-Pro to announce his retirement this year, with former left Tackle Terron Armstead announce his two weeks before.
“What an incredible trip has been,” Ramczyk wrote on his Instagram account. “My way to the NFL was not a straight line, it was not the story that most people expected. There were times when people doubted me, moments when I doubted me.
The measure occurs a day after Ramczyk was announced as the guest selector of the Saints in Green Bay, Wisconsin, for his Draft selections of day 2 next week.
Ramczyk, 30, was the 32nd selection in the 2017 Draft and the second selection of one of the most successful Draft classes in the history of the franchise. That kind of Saints also included the rookies of the year 2017 Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore, the defensive wing All-Pro, Trey Hendrickson, to security Marcus Williams and the supporter Alex Anzalone.
Ramczyk retirement has been on the horizon since the 2023 season due to a cartilage defect in one of its knees. Although Ramczyk did not miss a game due to an injury in his first four seasons, the knee became a problem during the 2021 season, and seven games were lost that year.
Ramczyk achieved the problem in 2022 and a game was not lost that year, but the problems returned at the beginning of the 2023 season. He tried to play it, but was finally placed in the injured reserve, losing the last four games.
“This year has bothered me a little more than in the past,” he said at the end of the 2023 season. “At some point, I could no longer play.”
The last Ramczyk game was a 28-6 victory in Los Saints against the Carolina Panthers on December 10, 2023.
Ramczyk said the problem was very serious at the end of that season, when he expressed concern about the possibility of being threatening.
The then Saints coach Dennis Allen, was optimistic about Ramczyk’s potential when talking to the media in the NFL 2024 exploration harvester. But he was decidedly more bleak over Ramczyk’s future a month later at the annual league meeting.
“He is not right where he probably expected to be, and really frankly, where he hoped to be,” said Allen in March 2024.
Ramczyk was placed on the physically unable to make the list on July 18 and did not return. Although it was occasionally in the games and was with the team on the last day of last season, it was significantly thinned in the low season.
Ramczyk restructured his contract on the first day of the low season, lowering his base salary to the minimum of the league. That hinted at his future plans when the former field marshal of the Saints, Drew Brees, also restructured his contract in a similar way before retiring in March 2021.
Brees did not present his retirement documents until after June 1, a movement that Ramczyk could also do, which will allow the Saints to spread their salary stop in the next two years. Ramczyk currently has $ 23 million compared to the salary limit and the team will have $ 11 million in dead money, but will get its base salary of $ 1,255 million accredited after June 1 if you choose to follow that route.
While the Saints knew that a retirement was on the horizon this low season, the organization wanted to announce the decision about its timeline.
