Curran, who has represented Surrey from U15 and captained for the first time a Surrey team in the U17, was the player of the game and the England tournament when they won the T20 World Cup in 2022, but has been out of favor from the 2023 World Cup. It was not selected for the initial squadrons of the white ball of Brendon McCullum this year, including the recent Champions The mandate of Jos Buttler ended as captain of England.

He led the team to consecutive appearances on the day of the finals and will continue to be a key part of the side inside and outside the field. CJ is one of the most senior players in the team and is very respected by all in the club.
“This is the right time for Sam to take charge as a captain with where he is in his career. It is a great opportunity for him to put his mark on the team and help to take us a step further to deliver cutlery. Sam has shown his leadership qualities already in both Surrey and in the IPL and he will bring a lot to the paper.”
