Two years of the match, which is scheduled for March 11 to 15 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first trial game played in the place between Australia and England in 1877, it was announced that the game would be a day -day game.
It will reflect the recent female ashes test that was a Night pink ball match at the MCG at the end of January-February, but will differ from the first men’s test in 1877 and the centenary test in 1977, which marked the anniversary of the 100 years, since both were played with the red ball during the day with identification results and Australia won both in 45 races. It will also be the first male test of the night of the day you play in the MCG.
Part of the reasoning was that it would help maximize the attendance of the crowd to the game in Australia, since it will be played during school and the year of work, unlike the boxing day test that is always played in a holiday period.
It will also help to boost television grades worldwide, since an Australian night -day day test is much more friendly for the viewers of the United Kingdom, and the third game session under lights can be seen after 7.30 am in the United Kingdom.
The new executive president of CA, Todd Greenberg, thanked the Victorian state government and Melbourne cricket Club for supporting the initiative to play under the lights.
“The 150th anniversary test in the MCG will be one of the great cricket events and playing in light will be a fantastic way to celebrate the rich inheritance of our game and prove the modern evolution of cricket,” he said. “It will also help ensure that more people can attend and see what will be a fantastic occasion.
“The centenary test created many iconic performances, including the five consecutive limits of David Hookes, of Tony Greig, Rick McCosker Batting with a broken jaw and the challenging century of Derek Randall, and I am sure that the 150 test will create its own memories of all life.
“The Ashes series of this season will open the appetite for this clash in exactly two years, and we hope to celebrate this historical occasion even more as it approaches.”
The unique test will not be part of the World Testing Championship, but if Australia is classified for the 2027 final, as they have done for editions 2023 and 2025, then they will play a June final WTC before an ash of five games, as they did in 2023. The ODI 2027 World Cup is scheduled for October and November.
