Yogscast Games announces The Royal Writ, a ‘lane-based card game with permadeath’

Yogscast games and independent developer Save Sloth Studios have announced the Royal Writ, a conical mallet builder.

Described as “a lane -based card game with Permadeath,” Royal Writ began his life as an entry for the Ludum Dare game Jam of 48 hours, but finally evolved to total development after positive feedback.

“Sometimes, the problems of a kingdom can be solved through simple communication, so their illustrious highness has decided to send letters that summon some of the uproar to their throne room,” says the description of the game. “What if the recipients are a bit reluctant to accept the invitation? There is no problem! A small siege never hurt anyone.”

The players collect and place the king’s creatures on the battlefield, where they march forward and try to defeat the enemy forces.

Each creature has different strengths and weaknesses, and the battlefield itself can affect its progress. For example, if an area is covered with water, terrestrial creatures may have difficulty passing, while aquatic creatures can swim and flying creatures can ignore the danger completely.

The battlefields are generated procedurally, and the players participate in mini -games to update and improve their cards. However, the main turn of the game is its introduction of Permadeath. “You could spend ages by promoting a particularly hard card, just to disappear if your plans have miscalculated,” says the description.

“Our original idea for the game was extremely simple, but fun was launched instantly as soon as we left the first rabbit soldier on the battlefield, so it was obvious for us to start making a complete game with this idea,” said Save Sloth Studios co -director Kornrel Pittmann. “Now, it has become something full of tons of mechanics, unique characters and images, and we loved working in all aspects.”

The managing director of Yogscast Games, Simon Byron, added: “We only signed games that we love, so it is not exaggerated to say that the entire team and just through the Yogscast network fell quickly and hard for the real writing when we saw it for the first time. It is such a bright, fun and intelligent version of the genre, full of surprise and Jeopardy.

The Royal Write will leave at the end of this year and can be a desire list on its Steam page.
