Bungie Promising New Lightfall Quest in Destiny 2 That Addresses Plot Details

Bungie has announced plans to add a new quest to Destiny 2 Lightfall that will address player criticisms and plot holes in the campaign.

For Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion, Bungie has promised to release a new quest that offers information on a significant plothole that led many players to criticize the game's campaign. The MacGuffin at the center of the Destiny 2: Lightfall plot is The Veil. It is what Destiny 2 players must safeguard because it is what Lightfall's villains, The Witness and Calus, desperately want. Unfortunately, the Veil's definition is never given in Lightfall. This brand-new Destiny 2 quest should make up for that oversight.

Many of the criticisms of the expansion have focused on the Lightfall campaign of Destiny 2's lack of information regarding the Veil. Given its significance in the events of the expansion, it's not the only criticism of the Lightfall campaign, but it is one that Destiny 2 players frequently point the finger at. Reviews for Lightfall even fell into the Mostly Negative category on Steam, with many citing the campaign as the expansion's most underwhelming feature.

The frustrations of Destiny 2 players have been heard by Bungie. According to the most recent This Week at Bungie blog post, Bungie decided it was "important" to give players a sneak peek of a brand-new quest that will be made available during the Season of the Deep. Reviewing Osiris' research and recently discovered Ishtar Collective data will help Destiny 2 players understand "the nature of the Veil" in more detail.
If any Destiny 2 players are wondering if this was always the plan, or if Bungie is simply trying to reassure players who were concerned that the issue would be ignored, Bungie clearly understands the situation. According to Bungie, players won't need to purchase the Season of the Deep season pass in order to complete this quest. All Lightfall players will be able to access the new quest once it becomes available, even after Season of the Deep has ended. This is Bungie altering its strategy in response to player feedback.

Additionally, Bungie is preparing some sizeable rewards for successfully completing this Lightfall quest. All Lightfall players will receive a new Legendary Weapon and three new Strand aspects, one for each class, after completing the final step. Even their names have been confirmed by Bungie. The Flechette Storm aspect will be given to Titans, the Threaded Specter aspect to Hunters, and the Wanderer aspect to Warlocks. Even after the Year 6 content for Lightfall has ended, these rewards will still be accessible.

The players' opinions of the Lightfall expansion won't probably change even if new information about The Veil is revealed. There will always be issues with Nimbus, Lightfall's carefree attitude, the stagnation of the Witness vs. Traveler conflict, and Strand's position in the narrative. This will acknowledge the grievances of Destiny 2's devoted fanbase and give those players the solution they seek who choose to stick around. More than most games can handle, in fact. The quest won't be available until the Season of the Deep, the second season of Lightfall, which is slated to premiere in late May.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
