Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Get an Exciting New Setting for Flashbangs

Developers announce the introduction of a new menu setting for flashbang grenades in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The co-creator of Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2, Beenox, has revealed a new setting that will make flashbang grenades a little bit easier on the player's eyes. The patch for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2's Season 2 Reloaded will include the small but frequently requested feature.

Beenox, an Activision subsidiary, is best known for its PC ports and support of other studios, including Raven, Treyarch, and Infinity Ward, who are responsible for the Call of Duty franchise. The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign was recently remastered, and it also helped with the remasters of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, and Raven and Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Additionally, it was one of many studios that worked on Infinity Ward's newest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which gave rise to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.

Fans of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 have long complained about the game's flashbang grenades. The bright white flash has been enough to cause real-world discomfort for anyone who happens to be playing in a dark room, even though they're only meant to temporarily blind the player in the game. The fact that Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2's Season 2 Reloaded add a new "Inverted Flash" setting, which fixes the issue when enabled from the games' interface menu, will thus come as a relief to some fans.

In a brief video posted to Twitter, Beenox demonstrated how the setting functions. Inverted Flash is enabled in the video, and a Modern Warfare 2 player fires a flashbang grenade at the target's feet. The screen would typically go completely white for a brief moment before fading back in. Instead, the inverted flash setting causes a total blackout of the screen. After that, the flashbang partially fades in before switching to a white effect. This continues until the flashbang is completely gone. If they remember to turn it on, this should stop the in-game weapon from blinding players in real life.

These features are not exclusive to Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Battlefield 2042 offers the same thing as one of its accessibility options. This feature has also been requested by some Warzone 2 players for a while. Although it's unknown if Raven Software and Beenox were aware of these requests, many supporters on Twitter appeared to be happy with the choice. Their eyes will undoubtedly be pleased with the change as well.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
