Resident Evil 4 Demo Mod Enables More Exploration

It won't be long before the remake of Resident Evil 4 is released, so fans and modders have been making the most of the demo that was just made available.

Resident Evil 4's demo may be constrained, but that hasn't stopped the modding community from extending the trial version of the game to allow for more exploration. This remake of the original 2005 release is one of the most hotly anticipated horror games of 2023, and it appears to be on track to be one of the best entries in the series, bringing nostalgia while also appealing to a more contemporary gaming environment.

The Resident Evil 4 demo has already been modified by users in an effort to cram as much content as possible into this small sample of the full game. The Chainsaw Man, also known as Dr. Salvador, was replaced with the endearing Shrek by one modder, who also managed to remove the time and kill limits, effectively making the game endless. Even though there isn't much time left until the official release, the modding community moves quickly, and there are still many ways to extend the demo.

Resident Evil 4 fans now have an additional incentive to play the demo, at least on the PC version, thanks to Nexus Mods user ScoovyHD, as reported by DSO Gaming. Their "Village Expanded" mod does exactly what it says on the tin, expanding the game's explorable areas by a small amount. The report continues by stating that following the "Church incident," access to these off-limits areas is possible. Players may encounter some bugs, glitchy sounds, and even sections that simply vanish into nothingness because these are unfinished features that were condensed for the demo. Yes, Leon Kennedy is dressed as a maid there as well.

There are other people besides modders who provide motivation to play. Capcom hid a secret hard mode in the Resident Evil 4 demo, it was recently discovered. The "Mad Chainsaw Mode" challenge appeared to have only randomly appeared. Later on, it was discovered that there were button prompts on the controller—or keyboard for PC users—that could be depressed to access this incredibly difficult version of the demo.

When it was first released in 1996, the Resident Evil series—one of the pioneers in the survival horror subgenre—became a cultural phenomenon. The reputation of the franchise only grew with later entries, and while there was a point in the middle where the RE name seemed to be drifting away from its roots, Capcom's flagship series is currently back in top form.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is set to release on March 24, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
