Lightfall from the sequel to Destiny. Mysterious Darkness Splinters Appear After First Successful Completion of the Raid

When the Root of Nightmares raid in Destiny 2 is first completed, strange Darkness Splinters start to appear, changing Lightfall.

The completion of Destiny 2's Root of Nightmares raid has resulted in the appearance of numerous Darkness Splinters throughout Neomuna. World-first raid completions in Destiny 2 frequently result in abrupt changes to the game's world. These adjustments could be significant or minute, bringing fresh material or developing Destiny 2's plot. To the dismay of Destiny 2 players, the Root of Nightmares completion hasn't yet resulted in any particularly significant changes, but there have been a few noteworthy additions.

On March 10, the first raid in Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion, Root of Nightmares, went live. Although many Destiny 2 players anticipated the raid to take a long time to complete because Bungie increased the difficulty of the gameplay in Lightfall, that was not the case. A group of unknown players finished Root of Nightmares in about two and a half hours, which was a quick turnaround compared to other Destiny 2 raids. Within two hours, Bungie confirmed the accomplishment.

Root of Nightmares' first completion was officially announced by Bungie, at which point Splinters of Darkness began to spread throughout Neomuna's brand-new Lightfall zone. Orange haze surrounds the stationary, floating crystals known as Splinters of Darkness. They can be activated by players, after which they vanish. Many Destiny 2 players are perplexed by these Darkness Splinters because there are no available hints, quests, or story pieces that explain what they are.

One thing is certain: Darkness Splinters are linked to one of Lightfall's hidden Triumphs. On Reddit, a player of Destiny 2 asserted that they had amassed "all of them," for which they had been awarded 80 Triumph points. Individual Darkness Splinters can also be collected for Strand Meditation currency and Neomuna reputation, but that's about it, it seems.

The Darkness Splinters can only be claimed after restarting Destiny 2, which Lightfall players should be aware of. Otherwise, regardless of whether a player owns Lightfall or not, when players approach them, a message reading "Requires Destiny 2: Lightfall" will show up on the screen. Players who are currently just starting Destiny 2 shouldn't encounter this bug.

Overall, even though the Darkness Splinters are a meager addition to Destiny 2, it's still something. It shows that the plot of Lightfall has advanced since the Root of Nightmares was defeated. Darkness is spreading, and it will take more research to determine what that means. Additionally, there are rumors that Neomuna News has some recent reports that are worth listening to. Destiny 2 Year 6 has a lot of story left to be discovered, as Bungie has made clear.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
