Sony's Remote Play handheld PlayStation Portal will be available in November

Sony has set a date for the release of PlayStation Portal, its upcoming Remote Play device.

The device will be available "in select markets" on November 15, according to a tweet from the official PlayStation Twitter account.

Pre-orders for the handheld are now being accepted at the PlayStation Direct store in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

Pre-orders will be available in Canada and Japan on September 29th, with more information to come.

The PlayStation Portal will cost $199.99 / €219.99 / £199.99 when it launches on November 15, but it will only be able to stream games from a PS5 console.

"PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house," according to a blog post about the handheld gaming device.

As previously stated, the PlayStation Portal is not a stand-alone console like the GameBoy. Rather, you must already own a PS5, with the remote player allowing you to play any games you have installed on your console, just elsewhere. You will need a WiFi connection for this, or you will be out of luck. For the best experience, Sony recommends a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps.

PlayStation Portal is only a Remote Play device; it does not support cloud streaming of games on PlayStation Plus Premium. As a result, in order for the PlayStation Portal to function properly, players must own PS5 hardware.

Games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium's cloud streaming as well as PS VR2 games, which demand the headset, are not supported, according to Sony.
